“Chaltén”,
mountain that smokes. This is because its peaks
are always in the clouds.
This massif, together with the Perito Moreno Glacier
are part of the Glacier National Parks. To get to
it you have to drive to El Chaltén. One of
the newest villages of Argentina. It was created
to reashure the national rights over the borders
on the ice regions.
In 1937 the National Park Los Glaciares was created.
After all the region had been explored and discovered
a new challenge came to mind. The enormous mountains
Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy had to be discovered. In
1952 two French men, Lionnel Terray and Guido Magnone
got to the top of the Fitz Roy and in the year 1970
the Italian Maestri gets to the top of the Cerro
Torre.
